I had an opportunity to listen to the Ruby Rogues podcast on Software Craftsmanship. This movement has been gaining momentum for some time. The manifesto that guides Software Craftsmanship is founded on four solid principles that aim to raise the bar of professional software development.
The beauty of the manifesto, aside from the amazing principles contained within it, is that there is no limit on how high that professional bar can be set. When developers take the principles of Software Craftsmanship seriously and integrate the values into their day-to-day professional lives the bar becomes an unattainable goal. That’s the way it is supposed to work. An unattainable goal will constantly keep you challenged to always want to improve and not rest on your laurels. Sometimes it’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey.
